Dave's birthday is coming up next week, and since we'll be away this weekend, and work is CRAZY next week, I thought I'd be a head of the game and make his surprise THIS week. Well, I am absolutely horrible with surprises - especially when I'm super proud of myself! This time I even tried to share it with a few friends, so that maybe I could hold it in a bit longer to surprise Dave. But I failed, miserably. I was just too proud of my work!
So, what did I do? Well I used my gift from one of the exchanges and made cake pops! I made them in the style of a video game called Minecraft. For those who aren't aware of the awesomeness that is Minecraft, it is a game in which you are a miner, and you mine ore/wood/other materials so that you can build more things (castles, railroads etc.). There are also monsters involved as well, but they mainly come out at night. The style of the game is just a bunch of cubes - which lent itself perfectly to cake pops! I made 3 different blocks, a creeper (monster), redstone ore (gray), and a chest (brown).

And here are the thre objects in their real form:

Pretty close, right?? The whole process was pretty hard, but I think I've absolutely learned a lot, so the next batch will be that much better! Here in Boston, we've been hit with a heat wave of sorts, which isn't the best environment to be attempting candy-making. 90F and 50% humidity is no place for candy. You can see all of the sweat on the cake pops actually in my image, my poor little pops were sweating!
